SportBike Chic, LLC is a women's motorcycle apparel company that I established in 2016. Riding motorcycles is one of the ultimate symbols of freedom and empowerment for women. After years of riding and searching for protective gear (cute protective gear) that fits, I decided to create my own. It started with jeans and a purse. These are the two products that I focused on initially and the ones that I continue to promote as my flagship items.
We spent 3 years going back and forth to introduce the best jeans that fit and continue to evolve into a better product. All the while, I was working to get Tank Purse™ (female alternative to the tank bag) prototype and patent completed and ready for introduction. Three years later, we all make our debut to the market at smaller events here and there. Then we went to AIMExpo in Columbus, Ohio. Afterward, we continue with the International Motorcycle Shows in NYC and LA.
It's been quite a ride - learning about starting a business from the ground up, certifications, UPC codes, marketing, etc. I'm fortunate and blessed that I can leverage my operational experience to create efficiencies within my own business, provide guidance and lead people remotely. I appreciate the importance of Key Performance Indicators and utilize data to understand where the opportunities are.
What's my why? Sheer passion and interest. I love the idea of creating something from nothing and figuring out how to make it successful. I love the idea of providing a service and a product that's so important to women and could help provide a better quality of life, should they have accidents. I love the idea of bringing comfort to women's hearts as they pass by the rack and wonder if these "SV" jeans that are super comfortable, transitional, and lined with 100% DuPont™ Kevlar® will fit them. I love the idea of introducing something cool for women like the Tank Purse™ in a place that's so heavily dominated by the male interest. For me, this journey has been one of growth, fun, challenges, and creation. This is my tiny way (for now) of impacting the world.
There are usually opportunities to fit curvy women in motorcycle gear. Our bodies are so varied that one size or style will not fit all. But for now, I hope that at least there's comfort in knowing that someone out there is invested and intentionally taking interest in trying to fill the need that's out there in protective gear that fits.
Ride Safe!
